Outlook on the Web provides complete access
to your email from any web browser. This service is available to all employees, works well on all
devices, and is the recommended method for accessing email remotely.
Remote Desktop
Remote Desktop allows you to access your workstation computer from outside the office.
The remotely accessed computer behaves as though you are sitting directly in front of it
and replicates the in-office experience completely.
This service is only available to employees that have received management approval.
Follow these steps to configure and use remote desktop from your device:
Windows Phone
Download and install the Edict Systems Certificate Authority Public Key from the
Edict Systems PKI website. Click on the link, and
the phone will walk you through installing the public key.
Open the app, tap on the menu, and select Settings:
In Settings --> Gateways, tap the plus icon (+) to create a new gateway:
Enter server name = remote.edictsystems.com, and tap Save.
Exit settings, and return to the welcome screen.
Select the plus icon (+) to create a new remote connection, then select Desktop:
Enter the computer name for the system you want to control (
you must append .edictsystems.local
to the computer name
), select the gateway you just created, and tap Save:
To connect to the remote desktop, tap on the new entry for your computer:
You will be prompted for credentials. Enter your user name in the form of
edictsystems\username,
and enter your password. Tap Connect:
If you receive a message that the "certificate can't be verified", you need to import the
Edict Systems Certificate Authority Public Key onto your device (See step #1 above):
You may have to enter your username and password twice.
If you entered all the information correctly (and you have been granted permission to use Remote Desktop),
then you will be connected to the computer you specified.
Linux
Microsoft does not provide a remote desktop client for Linux operating systems, but
there are several third-party clients available on the Internet.
Consider FreeRDP.
It is a free, open-source RDP client, and binaries are available for common Linux distributions.
Whichever RDP client you select must support the following, and should be configured as follows:
The client must support RDP 7.0 or newer.
The client must support RD Gateway Messaging.
When creating a connection, it is not necessary to specify the fully qualified domain name
to the remote computer; simply specifying the computer name is sufficient.
A Remote Desktop Gateway must be specified. If the client doesn't have an option to specify
a gateway, then that client is unsuitable.
Remote Desktop Gateway = remote.edictsystems.com
Gateway authentication should use the same credentials as the remote computer.
Passwords should not be saved or stored. It is a security risk to permit connections without requiring a password to be entered.
All company computers use a remote desktop certificate issued from an internal certificate server.
Your client may warn that the remote computer certificate is unknown or invalid.
You can explicitly trust the remote computer certificate, or import the Edict Systems Certificate Authority Public Key
certificate from the Edict Systems PKI website.
The client may require you to enter your username and password twice. This is common.
Other operating systems
Operating Systems not listed above (MS-DOS, OS/2, Blackberry, Windows CE, etc.) are not
supported by the Edict Systems Infrastructure Team.
If you know how to use remote desktop on operating systems not listed here, please inform the Infrastructure Team.
We'll gladly add the instructions to this website.
